Equity Fights AIDS

Equity Fights AIDS was created in October 1987 by the Council of Actors' Equity Association, the union representing stage actors and managers, as the theater community responded to the growing AIDS crisis. In 1992 it merged with Broadway Cares (founded 1988 by The Producers' Group) to form Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, or BC/EFA. Based in New York City, BC/EFA has raised more than $300 million to fund essential services for people with HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses across all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Washington, DC. It is known for signature fundraisers such as the Easter Bonnet Competition and the fall Red Bucket Follies, drawing on the talents of the American theater community.
