Yeztugo

Yeztugo is Gilead Sciences' brand name for lenacapavir when used as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV. The FDA approved it in June 2025, making it the first and only twice-yearly injectable HIV prevention option in the United States. Given as a subcutaneous injection every six months, it reduces the risk of sexually acquired HIV in adults and adolescents weighing at least 35 kg. Approval rested on the Phase 3 PURPOSE 1 and PURPOSE 2 trials, where 99.9 percent or more of participants who received it remained HIV negative. Because it only requires two shots a year, Yeztugo is seen as a major step toward reaching people for whom daily oral PrEP has been hard to keep up with.
