Gangway

Gangway is a general-English word for a passage or a shouted call to clear the way, and it is not a well-documented term in LGBTQ+ vocabulary.

Gangway is a common English word, not an established piece of queer terminology. It usually means a narrow passage or walkway (such as the ramp used to board a ship) or works as an exclamation shouted to make people step aside and clear a path. Some casual glossaries have linked it loosely to gay nightlife or gathering spaces, but that usage does not appear in the standard references on gay slang, such as documentation of Polari, the coded language gay men in mid-20th-century Britain used to speak safely. If you encountered gangway as a queer term in a specific community or era, treat it as local slang rather than a widely recognized definition.
