Magnetic
Magnetic is an informal term for a couple in which one partner is HIV-positive and the other is HIV-negative.
Magnetic is an informal term for a serodiscordant (also called mixed-status or discordant) couple, meaning one partner lives with HIV and the other does not. The word plays on the idea of opposite poles attracting, with the positive and negative partners imagined as the two ends of a magnet. It has long described the reality of many relationships, including gay and bisexual ones. Modern prevention tools have transformed these relationships. When the partner living with HIV takes treatment and reaches an undetectable viral load, the virus cannot be sexually transmitted, a fact summed up as U=U (Undetectable equals Untransmittable). PrEP taken by the HIV-negative partner adds further protection.
