Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act

The Therapeutic Fraud Prevention Act is proposed U.S. federal legislation that would ban commercial conversion therapy, the discredited practice of trying to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity, by classifying it as a deceptive and unfair business practice under consumer protection law. First introduced by Representative Ted Lieu of California in 2015 and reintroduced in later sessions of Congress, including the current one, it targets conversion therapy sold for profit. Major medical and psychological organizations have condemned the practice as ineffective and harmful. While the federal bill has not become law, more than 20 states and many localities have passed their own bans covering minors.
