Triangle

The triangle is one of the most enduring symbols in LGBTQ+ history. The pink triangle began in Nazi Germany as a concentration camp badge used to mark prisoners identified as gay men. Gay liberation groups reclaimed it in the 1970s as a symbol of pride and protest, and in the 1980s ACT UP paired an upward-pointing pink triangle with the slogan Silence = Death to demand action during the AIDS crisis. The black triangle was used by the Nazis to mark people they labeled asocial, a category that included some lesbians, and it too has been reclaimed. Today both triangles are worn as badges of remembrance and solidarity.
