LGBTQ
LGBTQ is an acronym for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning, used as an umbrella term for the community.
LGBTQ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer or Questioning. It builds on the older LGBT acronym by adding the Q, which covers people who use "queer" as a broad or political identity and people still exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity. The acronym grew through the 1990s and 2000s as advocates pushed for language that named more of the community. Today LGBTQ is one of the most common formulations in U.S. media, advocacy, and everyday speech. Longer versions such as LGBTQIA and LGBTQIA+ add letters for intersex, asexual, and other identities, since no single acronym captures everyone.
