AC/DC

AC/DC is an older slang term for someone who is bisexual, meaning attracted to more than one gender. It borrows from the electrical abbreviation for alternating current and direct current, playing on the idea of a person who "works both ways." The expression circulated widely in the mid-20th century, appearing in slang dictionaries from at least the 1950s. It gained extra notoriety through the rock band AC/DC, whose members chose the name for its high-energy meaning and said they were unaware of the sexual connotation. Today the phrase is mostly retro and can read as flippant, so many bisexual people prefer clearer, more affirming language like bisexual or bi+.
