Gender
Gender is the social, cultural, and personal system of identity and expression around being a man, a woman, both, neither, or something else, and is distinct from biological sex.
Gender is a multidimensional concept covering how people identify, how they express themselves, and the roles and expectations a culture attaches to being a man, a woman, or another identity. It is distinct from biological sex, which refers to physical traits like anatomy, hormones, and chromosomes. Major medical and human-rights organizations separate several ideas: gender identity is a person's internal sense of their own gender, and gender expression is how they present it outwardly through clothing, behavior, name, or voice. Gender is shaped by culture and socialization and is not limited to a man-woman binary. Many people identify beyond it, including nonbinary and genderqueer identities. A person's gender identity is theirs to know and name.
