Agender

Agender is a gender identity in which a person feels they have no gender or exists outside the concept of gender entirely.

Agender describes someone who does not identify with any gender. Some agender people experience a complete absence of gender, while others describe a gender that feels neutral or blank. The word combines the prefix "a-" meaning without with "gender." It sits under the nonbinary and transgender umbrellas, since agender people identify with a gender other than the one assigned at birth. Agender people may use any pronouns, though they/them and other gender-neutral options are common. Like all gender identities, the experience is personal and varies from person to person. The term gained wider visibility in the 2010s as online communities gave people language for identities beyond the man/woman binary.
