Tyler Clementi (1991-2010)

Tyler Clementi was an 18-year-old Rutgers University student whose 2010 suicide, after his roommate secretly webcammed him kissing another man, became a national symbol of anti-LGBTQ+ bullying.

Tyler Clementi (1991-2010) was a first-year student at Rutgers University in New Jersey. On September 22, 2010, at age 18, he died by suicide, jumping from the George Washington Bridge. Days earlier, his roommate Dharun Ravi had used a webcam to secretly view and tweet about Clementi kissing another man in their dorm room. Ravi was later convicted on charges including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation, though the case had a complicated legal path. Clementi's death drew national attention to cyberbullying and the harassment of LGBTQ+ young people. His family founded the Tyler Clementi Foundation to promote inclusion and end bullying online and off.
