Allyship

Allyship is the ongoing practice of supporting and advocating for a community you are not part of, in this context LGBTQ+ people. Groups like PFLAG describe it as active work: learning about LGBTQ+ experiences, using inclusive language, speaking up against discrimination, and being visible and vocal in that support. Allyship is usually framed as a practice rather than a title. It involves listening more than leading, elevating LGBTQ+ voices instead of speaking over them, and being open to correction when you get something wrong. Because it is an ongoing commitment, allyship is measured by consistent behavior over time rather than by a single statement or one-time gesture of support.
