Ageism

Ageism is prejudice or discrimination against people based on their age.

Ageism is prejudice or discrimination against people because of their age. Within LGBTQ+ communities it can run in more than one direction. Older queer people are sometimes made invisible, dismissed, or pushed out of social and dating spaces, while younger people may be written off as inexperienced. Older LGBTQ+ adults, including many who lived through the AIDS crisis, can face added burdens such as isolation, a lack of affirming elder care, and the erasure of their history. Organizations like SAGE work specifically to support older LGBTQ+ people and to challenge ageism both inside and outside the community.
