SAGE (Services & Advocacy For GLBT Elders)
SAGE is the oldest and largest U.S. nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults.
SAGE, which stands for Services and Advocacy for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Elders, is the country's oldest and largest nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of LGBTQ+ older adults. Founded in New York City in 1978, SAGE provides direct services, advocates for policy change at the local and federal levels, and works to reduce the isolation and discrimination many LGBTQ+ seniors face. It pioneered the nation's first friendly-visiting program for homebound LGBTQ+ elders and the first support group for older people living with HIV. Through its National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging, SAGECare cultural competency training, and a growing network of affiliates called SAGENet, the organization helps elders age with dignity and connection.
