Auntie

In LGBTQ+ slang, "auntie" affectionately refers to an older gay man, often one seen as warm, witty, and full of community knowledge. The term carries the flavor of a beloved relative who doles out advice, gossip, and support in equal measure. It has older roots: "aunt" and "auntie" were used, sometimes mockingly, for older gay men from at least the early twentieth century, and the word was still common by the mid-century. Some historians trace it further back to slang for a madam who ran a brothel. Today the term is usually used with fondness inside community spaces, describing a mentor figure who looks out for younger gay men.
