Blue DVD

Blue DVD is casual shorthand for gay adult films distributed on disc, from the era when DVDs were the main way people bought and watched pornography before streaming took over. The "blue" comes from a long-standing use of the word to mean indecent or sexually explicit, the same root behind "blue movie" and "blue jokes," which date to the early 20th century. Gay erotic film has been a notable part of gay male culture, with studios building recognizable brands during the DVD years. As distribution moved online, physical discs faded, and the phrase mostly survives as a nod to that earlier format. It is informal community language rather than an industry or dictionary term.
