Center For Black Equity, The

The Center for Black Equity is an international nonprofit working to build health, wealth, and equity for Black LGBTQ+ communities. Founded in 1999 and known until 2012 as the International Federation of Black Prides, it grew out of the Black Pride movement that began with DC Black Pride in 1991. Based in Washington, DC, the organization coordinates a network of Black Pride celebrations across North America and beyond, and supports advocacy, health, and economic programs that address the specific inequities Black queer people face at the intersection of racism and homophobia. Earl Fowlkes served as its longtime founding president and CEO, with leadership transitioning in 2024.
