Outright Action International

Outright International is a human rights nonprofit founded in 1990 that documents abuses against LGBTIQ people, strengthens local movements, and advocates for equality around the world. It was originally named the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC), later became OutRight Action International, and now goes by Outright International. The group holds consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, giving it year-round access to advocate for LGBTIQ rights with member states and UN agencies in New York. Its early work helped push the U.S. State Department to include persecution based on sexual orientation in its annual human rights reports. It focuses especially on regions where LGBTIQ people face criminalization or violence.
