PULSE (Nightclub)

Pulse was a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, where a gunman killed 49 people and wounded more than 50 on June 12, 2016, in what was then the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

Pulse was an LGBTQ+ nightclub in Orlando, Florida. In the early morning of June 12, 2016, during the club's Latin Night, a gunman opened fire, killing 49 people and wounding more than 50. It was the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history at the time and was investigated as both a terrorist attack and a hate crime. Most of those killed were young LGBTQ+ Latinx people, and the loss hit queer and Latino communities especially hard. The tragedy drew national mourning and renewed calls for gun reform and protection against anti-LGBTQ+ violence. The original building was taken down in 2026, with a permanent memorial planned for the site to honor the 49 lives lost.
