Stonewall Democrats

Stonewall Democrats is the name used by a network of LGBTQ+ political clubs and caucuses tied to the US Democratic Party, named for the 1969 Stonewall uprising. Local and state chapters register voters, endorse and fundraise for pro-equality candidates, and push LGBTQ+ priorities inside party structures. A national umbrella group, the National Stonewall Democrats, operated from the late 1990s into the early 2010s. In January 2025, leaders from many states launched a new National Federation of Stonewall Democrats to coordinate chapters and strengthen LGBTQ+ political power within the party. Individual state and city chapters, such as those in Oregon, Nebraska, and Virginia, continue to organize under the Stonewall name.
