Stonewall (Charity)

Stonewall, legally Stonewall Equality Limited, is one of Britain's largest LGBTQ+ rights charities. It was founded on 24 May 1989 by a group of activists organizing against Section 28, a law that barred local councils and schools from "promoting" homosexuality. The charity took its name from the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York, though it is a separate British organization. After 1997 it shifted toward policy work and helped win the repeal of Section 28, an equal age of consent, the end of the ban on LGBT people in the armed forces, adoption and IVF rights for same-sex couples, and civil partnerships. It is also known for its workplace equality programs and its list of inclusive employers.
