Homosexuality

Homosexuality is the experience of sexual and romantic attraction toward people of the same gender. It is a natural variation in human sexuality, not a disorder or a choice. Every major medical and mental health body treats it this way. The American Psychiatric Association removed homosexuality from its diagnostic manual in 1973 after research and activism showed it to be a normal variation rather than a pathology, and the World Health Organization followed in 1990. Same-sex attraction and behavior have been documented across cultures, historical periods, and many animal species. The word itself dates to the late nineteenth century, and today many people describe their own homosexuality using terms like gay, lesbian, or queer.
