Wigstock
Wigstock was an annual outdoor drag festival in New York City's East Village, founded by Lady Bunny in 1984 as a playful homage to Woodstock.

Wigstock was an annual outdoor drag festival in New York City's East Village. It began spontaneously in 1984 when Lady Bunny and other drag queens, after a night at the Pyramid Club, staged an impromptu show in Tompkins Square Park. Named as a wink at Woodstock, it grew into one of the world's most beloved celebrations of drag, drawing large crowds each Labor Day weekend before moving to larger venues. The 1995 documentary "Wigstock: The Movie" captured its spirit. The festival wound down in 2001, then returned for revival events beginning in 2018, cementing its place in drag history.
