Bloodline

In drag and ballroom culture, a bloodline is a chosen-family lineage passed down through mentorship rather than birth. In the Black and Latino ballroom scene, members join Houses that function as chosen families, led by a House Mother or Father who guides, supports, and mentors their children. The connections between these mentors and their children, and the generations that follow, form a bloodline. The same idea appears in drag, where a drag mother nurtures drag daughters and sons who may go on to raise their own. Bloodlines carry names, reputation, and belonging across generations, offering support and identity to people who may have been rejected by their families of origin. They are a core way queer community remembers its own history.
