Baby Dyke

Baby dyke is an affectionate slang term for a young or newly out lesbian who is at the beginning of exploring her identity and the wider queer community. It sits alongside related terms like baby gay, and it names the specific experience of early self-discovery, first crushes, and finding one's footing in lesbian culture. The word dyke was historically a slur that lesbians reclaimed as a badge of pride and strength beginning in the 1970s, and baby dyke has that same reclaimed warmth.
