BDE stands for Big Dick Energy, a slang term for a calm, effortless confidence: the ease of someone who feels no need to prove anything to anyone. Writer Allison Davis described it as the assurance that comes from being comfortable in your own skin. The phrase went viral online in mid-2018, spreading widely after commentary tied it to figures like Anthony Bourdain and, soon after, to Pete Davidson through a comment from Ariana Grande. Despite the name, BDE is understood to be about presence rather than genitalia, and it is applied to people of any gender or anatomy. It became a warmly used piece of internet and LGBTQ+ slang.
