Catcher

Catcher is informal slang for the receptive partner in anal sex, a rough synonym for bottom. It comes from a baseball metaphor: the catcher receives the pitcher's throw, so the pitcher/catcher pairing is playful shorthand for the insertive and receptive sexual roles. This baseball imagery has circulated in gay male slang for generations. Like most role terms, it describes a preference or a role in a specific encounter rather than a fixed identity, and many people switch roles or do not use these labels at all.
