Compersion

Compersion is the feeling of joy that comes from seeing a partner or loved one find happiness or love with someone else.

Compersion describes the warm, positive feeling of being genuinely happy for a partner who is enjoying a connection with another person. It is often discussed in polyamorous and other consensually non-monogamous relationships, where a partner might feel glad rather than threatened when their partner dates or grows close to someone else. People frequently call it the opposite of jealousy, though many practitioners note the two are not simple opposites and can even coexist. The word was popularized within polyamorous communities and echoes the broader idea of finding joy in another's joy. Compersion is treated as something that can grow with trust, communication, and security rather than a feeling everyone automatically has. It can also apply to happiness felt for close friends, not only romantic partners.
