Dom / Dominant
In BDSM and kink, a Dominant (Dom or Domme) is the partner who takes a role of control or authority within a negotiated, consensual power exchange.
In BDSM and kink, a Dominant, often shortened to Dom for men or Domme for women, is the partner who takes the role of control, direction, or authority within a consensual power exchange. A Dominant may set rules, give instructions, and guide the dynamic of a scene or an ongoing relationship, complementing a submissive who yields that control. Central to the role is that the power is negotiated and freely given. Partners discuss desires, limits, and safe words in advance, and aftercare, the check-in and comfort that follows a scene, is part of the practice. Being a Dominant is understood within the community as a role of responsibility and trust rather than simple bossiness, requiring attention to a partner's wellbeing and clear, ongoing consent.
