Drab

Drab is casual slang within drag and cross-dressing circles for being out of drag, dressed in ordinary street clothes rather than in a stage persona. It is the opposite of being in drag or "en femme," and a performer might say they are running errands "in drab" when nobody would recognize them as their drag character. The word is sometimes backronymed as "dressed as a boy" to mirror the folk claim that drag means "dressed as a girl," but language historians note that origin is unrecorded and almost certainly invented after the fact. In practice drab simply describes the plain, un-costumed look a performer wears offstage. Usage varies from person to person.
