G (GhB)

G is a common nickname for GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyrate) and its close cousin GBL. It is a central nervous system depressant that can produce euphoria, relaxation, lowered inhibitions, and heightened libido at small doses, which is why it appears in some party and chemsex contexts among gay and bisexual men. GHB is very high risk because the gap between an intended dose and one that causes unconsciousness, slowed breathing, or death is extremely small, especially when mixed with alcohol or other depressants. It has also been misused as a drug-facilitated assault substance. In the United States GHB is a Schedule I controlled substance. Harm reduction guidance, careful dosing, and never mixing with alcohol are widely emphasized.
