Gaysian

Gaysian is a portmanteau of "gay" and "Asian," used for people who are both of Asian descent and LGBTQ+. It most often describes gay Asian men, though it is used more broadly across queer Asian communities. The word names a specific intersectional experience: navigating queer identity alongside Asian cultural identity, family expectations, and the reality of being racialized within predominantly white LGBTQ+ spaces. Many people embrace it as a proud community label, and it anchors social scenes, groups, and online spaces such as r/gaysian. Like many identity slang terms, tone matters. It reads warmly from within the community and can feel reductive when used to fetishize or stereotype.
