Go-Go's / Go-Go Dancer

Go-go dancers are performers hired to dance at nightclubs, bars, and events, frequently on platforms, podiums, or in elevated cages. The style originated in the early 1960s at the French bar Whisky a Gogo, and the West Hollywood club Whisky a Go Go popularized suspended cage dancing in 1964. The name traces to the French phrase a gogo, meaning in abundance. In gay bars and nightclubs, go-go dancing became a lasting tradition, adding theatrical energy and spectacle to the dance floor. Gay go-go culture has celebrated a wide range of body types and remains part of the economics and social fabric of LGBTQ+ nightlife.
