Intersex Flag

The intersex flag was created in July 2013 by intersex activist Morgan Carpenter, then with Organisation Intersex International Australia (now Intersex Human Rights Australia). It shows a golden yellow field with a hollow purple circle. Carpenter chose yellow and purple deliberately because they are not associated with the gendered pink and blue used for girls and boys, and the unbroken circle symbolizes wholeness and completeness, pushing back on the idea that intersex bodies need to be altered or fixed. The flag is dedicated to the public domain, which helped it spread quickly. Its yellow field and purple circle were later incorporated into the Intersex-Inclusive Progress Pride flag designed by Valentino Vecchietti in 2021.
