Key West

Key West is a subtropical island city at the southern tip of Florida long known as one of the country's most welcoming LGBTQ+ destinations.

Key West, Florida, sits at the southern end of the Florida Keys and is internationally known as a gay-friendly travel destination. Its history as a refuge for LGBTQ+ people, artists, and free spirits reaches back to the early twentieth century, helped by the island's geographic isolation and tolerant culture. Through the 1960s and 70s it became a must-visit spot for LGBTQ+ travelers seeking a come-as-you-are haven, and gay entrepreneurs helped build much of its guesthouse and nightlife scene. In 2000 the city adopted "One Human Family" as its official philosophy. Annual events like Key West Pride in June, Womenfest, and the fall Fantasy Fest draw large crowds. Past residents include writer Tennessee Williams.
