KYS (Know Your Status)

Know Your Status (KYS) is a public health message urging people to get tested for HIV so they know whether they are HIV-positive or HIV-negative.

Know Your Status, often shortened to KYS, is a public health message encouraging people to get tested for HIV and learn their result. Regular testing is a foundation of sexual health. People who test positive can start treatment early and reach an undetectable viral load, which keeps them healthy and prevents passing HIV to partners. People who test negative can make informed prevention choices, including PrEP. Testing is available free or low-cost at health clinics, community health centers, many pharmacies, and through at-home test kits. The CDC recommends that everyone ages 13 to 64 be tested at least once, with more frequent testing for those at higher risk. Knowing your status protects both you and your partners.
