Moonlight (Movie)

Moonlight is a 2016 American coming-of-age drama written and directed by Barry Jenkins, adapted from Tarell Alvin McCraney's semi-autobiographical play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue. Told in three chapters, it follows Chiron, a Black gay boy growing up poor in 1980s Miami, as he moves from childhood through adolescence into a guarded adulthood, wrestling with identity, family, and desire. Released by A24, it won the Academy Award for Best Picture and was widely described as the first LGBTQ-themed mass-marketed feature with an all-Black cast. Praised for its cinematography, score, and tenderness, it is a landmark in Black queer cinema and a rare portrait of gay Black masculinity on screen.
