Real Education for Healthy Youth Act

The Real Education and Access for Healthy Youth Act (REAHYA, earlier introduced as the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act) is proposed U.S. federal legislation, reintroduced across several Congresses and championed by Advocates for Youth. It would direct federal funding toward comprehensive sexual health education and services that are medically accurate, age-appropriate, and inclusive of LGBTQ+ young people, moving away from abstinence-only-until-marriage programs. Supporters point to research showing comprehensive sex education is more effective than abstinence-only approaches at reducing sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy. Inclusive curricula matter especially for LGBTQ+ youth, whose health needs are routinely left out of abstinence-only teaching. The bill has been introduced but not enacted into law.
