Rice Queen

A slang and often controversial term for a gay man, usually non-Asian, who is primarily or exclusively attracted to Asian men.

Rice queen is a slang term used in gay culture for a man, typically non-Asian and often white, whose sexual and romantic attractions center on Asian men. It emerged in Western gay communities in the second half of the 20th century and pairs with related labels such as potato queen (an Asian man drawn mainly to white men). The word is contested. Some men adopt it lightly to describe a preference, while critics point out that it often shades into fetishization, exoticizing Asian men and reducing them to a racial type. Academic work on the phrase, including Peter Jackson's study on white gay desire, connects it to broader conversations about sexual racism and racial power in dating.
