Safe Word

A safe word is a pre-agreed word or signal that any participant can use to instantly pause or stop consensual sexual play. It is a cornerstone of ethical BDSM and kink, letting people keep real control even during intense power exchange or role-play where saying "no" or "stop" might be part of the scene itself. A common approach borrows traffic-light language: "red" means stop now, "yellow" means slow down or check in, and "green" means keep going. Because gags or restraints can make speech impossible, partners often also agree on a nonverbal signal, such as dropping a held object. Safe words rest on consent, trust, and clear communication set before play begins.
