Situationship

A situationship is a romantic or sexual connection that has never been formally defined. The people involved are more than friends and are dating in some sense, but they have not agreed on labels, commitment, or where things are heading. The word is a blend of "situation" and "relationship," and it caught on because it names a common modern experience that older terms missed. Situationships can offer closeness and companionship without the pressure of a defined future, which some people enjoy. They can also become painful when the two people want different things or when one hopes it will grow into commitment while the other does not. The term is increasingly also used for the person one is seeing this way.
