It overlaps heavily with the sport dyke identity, describing someone who tends toward sportswear and active pursuits and who feels at home in athletic settings. The term reflects a long-standing and visible presence of lesbian and queer women in sports, from recreational softball and soccer teams to devoted fanbases for professional women's leagues. It is one of several community aesthetics people use as playful self-description, sitting near soft butch, futch, and others.
