Futch

Futch is a portmanteau of "femme" and "butch," used mostly within lesbian, bisexual, and sapphic communities to describe someone whose gender expression lands between the classically feminine and the strongly masculine. A futch person might pair traditionally femme elements with butch ones rather than settle fully at either end. The term is often used warmly and playfully, and it overlaps with related labels like "chapstick lesbian" and "soft butch." Like other butch and femme identity words, futch is about self-perception and presentation, so it means what the person using it wants it to mean. It gained wider pop-culture visibility in the 2020s.
