Chapstick lesbian describes a lesbian whose presentation lands in the middle ground between a lipstick lesbian (very feminine) and a butch lesbian (masculine of center). The name comes from the image of someone who reaches for chapstick rather than a full face of makeup: comfortable, understated, and androgynous without leaning hard in either direction. Think flannel and jeans, sneakers, and a relaxed confidence. The label is used affectionately inside sapphic communities and, like most style-based lesbian terms, is self-described and flexible rather than a strict category. Someone can move between femme, chapstick, and butch presentation over time, and no single look is required to claim it.
