Suicide Hotline

A suicide hotline is a free, confidential crisis line that connects people in distress with a trained counselor by phone, text, or chat, offering immediate support and referrals. LGBTQ+ people, especially youth and transgender individuals, report higher rates of suicidal thoughts, driven largely by stigma and rejection rather than their identity itself, which makes affirming crisis care important. The Trevor Project runs a 24/7 crisis line for LGBTQ+ young people in the U.S. (call 1-866-488-7386, or text START to 678-678). The national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline serves everyone; its specialized LGBTQ+ youth option, once reached by pressing 3, was ended by the federal government in July 2025.
