THOT

THOT is an acronym for 'that ho over there,' used as slang for a person, most often a woman, seen as sexually provocative or promiscuous. It grew out of Black and hip-hop online culture and spread rapidly on social media in the mid-2010s. The term is generally sexist and disparaging, and dictionaries note it is usually applied to women as an insult. Like other charged words, some people have reclaimed it, using it playfully among close friends or in sex-positive and LGBTQ+ spaces as a form of self-identification. Its meaning depends heavily on who is speaking, who is being described, and the context, so it can land very differently.
