Gagged

In drag and ballroom slang, to be gagged is to be so amazed, shocked, or impressed that you are momentarily speechless. Saying "I am gagged" or "she gagged the whole room" singles out a look, performance, or reveal as extraordinary, and it counts among the highest forms of praise in drag vocabulary. The term grew out of Black and Latino gay ballroom culture that flourished in New York during the 1970s and 1980s, then spread widely through drag scenes and shows like RuPaul's Drag Race. In the 2020s it crossed into mainstream and Gen Z slang, sometimes stretched to "gagged and gooped" for extra emphasis.
