Gay Agenda
The "gay agenda" is a pejorative phrase used by anti-LGBTQ groups to suggest that acceptance of queer people is part of a coordinated, threatening plan rather than a movement for equal rights.
"Gay agenda," sometimes "homosexual agenda," is a derogatory phrase used mainly by the religious right and social conservatives to frame LGBTQ+ acceptance as a secret, organized scheme rather than an ordinary push for equal treatment. The rhetoric portrays basic goals like nondiscrimination protections, marriage equality, and inclusive education as a coordinated threat to "family values," magnifying fear and hostility toward queer people. It rose to prominence in U.S. culture-war messaging in the late twentieth century and remains a staple of anti-LGBTQ discourse. Many LGBTQ+ people have reclaimed the term ironically, joking that the real "gay agenda" is nothing more than wanting to live safely and be treated fairly. Used sincerely, it functions as a scare phrase, not an accurate description of any actual plan.
