Gray

In LGBTQ+ contexts, gray refers to the middle ground of the asexual and aromantic spectrums, where attraction is experienced rarely or weakly.

Gray (also spelled grey) describes the space between two clear categories on the asexual and aromantic spectrums. It names the experience of people who feel sexual or romantic attraction only rarely, under narrow conditions, or at a low intensity, rather than fully or not at all. The idea comes from thinking of sexuality less as black and white and more as a scale with a wide gray area in between. You will see gray used on its own and as a prefix in words like gray-A, graysexual, and grayromantic. Communities such as AVEN (the Asexual Visibility and Education Network) helped popularize the concept, giving people language for attraction that does not fit neat binary labels.
