Intimacy
Intimacy is the closeness, vulnerability, and deep connection between people, spanning emotional, physical, romantic, and sexual bonds.
Intimacy is the sense of closeness and openness that grows when people let themselves be known by one another. It is not only sexual: intimacy can be emotional, intellectual, physical, or spiritual, and it shows up in partnerships, friendships, and community. In LGBTQ+ life, intimacy often carries added weight. People who grew up hiding their identity or facing rejection may have to unlearn shame before they can be fully open with others. For many, the deepest intimacy is found in chosen family and close friendships as much as in romantic relationships. Building trust, communicating needs, and setting boundaries are all part of how healthy intimacy forms and lasts.
